• Rio Ferdinand to Real Madrid or Barcelona?

Filed Under (Rio Ferdinand) by Seagull on 05-09-2009

Friends and family of Manchester United team arrive at Old TraffordThere are reports this morning which are suggesting that Manchester United may be willing to offload Rio Ferdinand at the end of the season so that he can go and play in Spain with Real Madrid or Barcelona. The reasoning behind this move is that Rio is a ‘business man’ and a move to Spain would be beneficial for all the businesses he has started and plans to start.

There is no doubting that a move to Spain would be great for the Rio brand as we have seen Beckham and Ronaldo make the moves to Spain and these moves have resulted in great off the field publicity for the two.

From a footballing point of view, I would obviously be very sad to see Rio leave as I believe he is one of the best defenders in the game today. But his injury problems have not helped us a great deal as he seems to be injured most of the time. And the fact that he is already 30 means that he may not last long in the game if his injuries continue. I am sure Sir Alex would cash in on Rio at the end of the season if Real or Barca come in with suitable bids.

What do you make of the possibility of Rio leaving at the end of the season to go to Spain?

    Neighbours Beware!

The season has begun and already United fans are worried ( like me). The transfer window drama has also finished and there was no deadline day purchase by United. The Arsenal game was really intriguing and worrying coz we were’nt the better team. We have to be true to ourselves and accept that Man U are weaker by definition and Chelsea do look favorites. On the other hand we have neighbours with bottomless pockets who have started better. One can argue that their real tests are yet to come and it is true. It’s too early to judge anyone or any team but Man City are looking god but like all faithful United fans I also hope they don’t do what everyone thinks they will. No matter how weak United are still title favourites. To all the devils. Glory Glory Man Utd.

Jose Mourinho to takeover from Sir Alex?

Filed Under (Sir Alex Ferguson) by Seagull on 28-07-2009

Reports today suggest that Jose Mourinho could just takeover at Manchester United when Sir Alex finally decides to call it quits, well at least that is what Mourinho wants. What was my first thought when I heard this? Great news if you ask me! For a while now I have been racking my brain trying to think who could possibly replace Sir Alex. There will never be another Sir Alex so we can forget about finding someone of his caliber. So we need to find someone good enough and big enough to continue our legacy. Of all the ex-United players now in management, there is no one I can think of who is ready now to take cover at the helm at Old Trafford.

Being manager of Manchester United is not going to be easy especially after all Sir Alex has done for us. The person to take over has to be a born winner and someone capable of keeping the winning tradition going. Mourinho fits the bill perfectly.

SOCCER: MAR 11 UEFA Champions League - Manchester United v Internazionale

No one can doubt the ability of Jose. His attitude and arrogance may stink at times but he is a winner which is all we can ask for. He will get the best out of every single player he puts onto the field. One only has to look at his CV: Winner at Porto, winner at Chelsea and winner at Inter. Everywhere he goes he wins, so why can’t he do the same for us?

We do not know exactly when Sir Alex is going to go. I have a gut feeling if we win the league this season he may just call it quits. If we win the Champions League then I am 100% sure he will say enough is enough. The question now will be, when will Mourinho want to leave Inter? I feel Jose has a point to prove in Italy and he wants to win the Champions League with them but surely if United come calling for him, he will have to walk away from Inter.

What do you think of Jose taking over from Sir Alex?

Manchester United sign Antonio Valencia for £17m

Filed Under (Antonio Valencia, Transfers) by Seagull on 01-07-2009

Manchester United finally made a signing yesterday. Wigan winger, Antonio Valencia has joined Manchester United for £17million. Valencia is not the big name signing that we are all waiting for but he is a very decent signing. I have liked what I have seen of this guy when he played for Wigan. Valencia will come in and play on the right wing where CR7 used to occupy. Now Valencia will not get us the sack full of goals that Ronaldo did but he will offer us the pace and skill down the right that will create opportunities for our front men. What do you think of the Valencia signing?

    £50million for Sergio Aguero?

Filed Under (Transfers) by Seagull on 24-06-2009

We need to go and get some new attacking options this summer now that Ronaldo and Tevez have left but is it a good idea to spend £50million on Sergio Aguero? There is no doubting that the guy has bags of talent and he would be a great addition to our team but £50million is a bit too much in my opinion.

    Sergio Aguero, Atletico Madrid

Aguero is young (21 years old) and has already shown during his time at Atletico Madrid that he is world class. He is already a full Argentina international with some dubbing him the new Maradona. I would have said that the reason Atletico want £50million for him is because they know United have cash from the Ronaldo sale. But the £50million fee is being derived from Aguero’s buy out clause as Atletico would not want to sell their star player from their own free will. If we do bid the £50million we will trigger the buy out clause and Atletico would have no choice but to allow United to talk to Aguero if he wants to join us.

Do you think it is a good idea to spend £50million on Aguero?

Casillas will not be joining Manchester United

Filed Under (Transfers) by Seagull on 24-06-2009

I must say that I never thought Casillas would leave Real Madrid to join Manchester United. This was really a shot in the dark and I am not sure if Sir Alex would have actually gone to make a bid for Casillas. There is no doubting that Casillas is one of the best goal keepers in the world and he would be an excellent addition to United but I always felt that his bond with Real was just too strong for anyone to break (even us).

Casillas has come out and said, “The fans should be calm, there is nothing at all from Manchester (United) or any other club. I’m from Spain and from Madrid, and that’s it.”

So let us forget about seeing Casillas playing for United and rather look for a younger long term replacement for Van der Saar.

    Rio Ferdinand on holiday

Filed Under (Rio Ferdinand) by Seagull on 21-06-2009

The summer is here and all the football stars are on holiday relaxing, and they deserve it after the long season they had. I spotted some pictures of Rio Ferdinand on holiday in Israel a couple of days ago and I thought I would share them with you.

**EXCLUSIVE** Rio Ferdinand, Manchester United hunk, continues his Tel Aviv holiday by soaking up the sun at his poolside lounge and hanging out with former Leeds player Jody Morris

The one above is off Rio relaxing with Jody Morris! Do you remember Jody from his days at Chelsea and Leeds? I wonder what ever happened to him and it looks like he is big makes with Rio.

Then below we have Rio spotted out in the club having a good time! It is clear to see that Rio enjoys having a good time but I wonder if all of this is going to end when he gets married to his fiancée Rebecca Ellison. Apparently the wedding is this coming Saturday and Rio has hired a private jet to fly 100 family and friends to the Caribbean for the wedding! I wonder if CR7 and Tevez were invited to the wedding?

Karim Benzema on his way to United?

Filed Under (Transfers) by Seagull on 21-06-2009

Now that Tevez has left, Manchester United need another striker, coupled with the fact that CR7 has also gone. Reports suggest that the name at the top of Sir Alex’s list is that of Karim Benzema from Lyon. I would not mind seeing Benzema at Old Trafford as I believe he is a quality player and the kind of signing we need to pump life back into the exodus of players. My only concern is how much Lyon are going to want for this player. Everyone knows that United have a load of cash after selling CR7 to Real Madrid so they could quote a ridiculously high price. But knowing Sir Alex he will not pay anything higher than the actual value of the player.

    Tevez is gone!

Filed Under (Transfers) by Seagull on 21-06-2009

Carlos Tevez has decided not to stay on at Manchester United. The Argentine was apparently offered a lucrative 5 year deal at Old Trafford that would have made him one of the highest players at the club, if not the Premiership, this after Sir Alex had agreed to pay the £25.5million asking price.

Premier League: Manchester United Champions 2009

A United statement said: “Following contact received from Carlos Tevez’s advisors last night, in advance of the deadline the club set for concluding negotiations, Manchester United announces that Carlos will not be signing a new contract with the club. The club agreed to pay the option price of £25.5m and offered Carlos a five-year contract which would have made him one of its highest paid players. Disappointingly however, his advisors informed the club that, despite the success he has enjoyed during one of the club’s most successful periods, he does not wish to continue playing for Manchester United. The club would like to thank Carlos for his services over the last two seasons and wishes him good luck for the future.”

I think we all knew that Carlos was leaving, it was just a matter of waiting to hear the official confirmation from him. The day he waved good bye to the fans when he was subbed off against Arsenal was a clear sign of his intent. Tevez loves (loved) the club but I think he just did not see eye to eye with Sir Alex. Granted that Tevez is a world class strike and deserved more games for United but he wanted more game time which Sir Alex was not willing to give him.

Now with CR7 having gone and we have all that cash, it made sense to spend the £25.5m on a player like Tevez but the guy has made up is mind and he is gone now. I am glad he is not going to Liverpool as that really would have rubbed salt into the wounds but then again it looks like he could be headed to Manchester City which in itself is an insult to us!
